Your Roof: Repair It Or Replace It?

Posted on

Your roof is such an important part of your home. It keeps you dry, protects you from the sun's rays, protects you from the wind, and protects you in many other ways. This is why it's so important for you to make sure it is sound at all times. Repairs need to be done right away, and roof replacement should be done when the time comes that the roof is too old to provide you with adequate protection. Here are some examples of times when you want to have your roof repaired and how to know when it's time to have it replaced:

Shingles have blown off the roof

It's quite common to have some shingles in your yard after a storm that produced strong winds. The sight of shingles in the yard alone doesn't mean the roof is in need of replacement. However, you do want to have a roofer come out right away to replace the shingles for you and make sure no there's other damage to the roof, such as damaged flashing or other issues.

Granules continuously fall from the roof

Seeing a few granules in the gutter or on the ground doesn't mean anything other than some granules have come loose. However, if you keep finding them in the gutter and the ground and it seems like there is quite a bit of them, then this can be indicative of a roof needing to be replaced. The issue may be able to be handled by repairing the roof by replacing a section of shingles or in another way. The thing to do is get a roofer out to determine whether a repair can be done or the roof needs to be replaced.

The roof is leaking

In many cases, a leaking roof isn't a big deal and the problem can be easily remedied by having a roofer come out to fix the leak. However, if the roof is old and there are many leaks or if new leaks keep appearing, then you may need to have the roof replaced soon. The roofer who comes out to tend to the leak will be able to let you know if you should have the roof replaced soon. There can be a lot of factors to consider, and a roofer will be able to assess the situation with an expert eye. There may be one area that needs replacing, the issue may be with the flashing, or any number of things may be going on, and they can get to the bottom of it and inform you of what you should have done.
